Hi I’m Carly and I’m a jewelry designer and metalsmith. I create artisan jewelry that is designed and handmade by me in my San Francisco studio.
I’m continuously inspired by my surroundings from city life to nature’s landscapes, and all the flora and fauna found in these magical places. It’s the textures, the patterns and the life I find in these places that I draw my inspiration from. I have always found a sense of peace in nature, as most do and my jewelry is inspired by that.
My background is in art and design. I studied studio arts and graphic design in college. I had grown up making jewelry and taken classes here and there, but it wasn't until college where I worked for a jewelry designer for the first time. This is where I saw my future and I was hooked from that point on. From there I decided to attend a trade school for jewelry making. This led me to work for several jewelry designers. I was able to hone my craft and start exploring my own designs.
I put the utmost care and attention to detail into all my work because it isn't just a design, but the love and work that goes into crafting a unique and special piece of jewelry. From hand carving wax and the ancient process of lost wax casting to fabricating pieces; I employ different techniques that help me create my jewelry. I’m particularly fond of the process of creating a design and carving it with a piece of wax, which is later brought to life in metal.
I think jewelry should be beautiful, well-made and most importantly fun to wear. It’s a means of self-expression. Jewelry adds a special touch each time we put it on. It’s a reflection of you. I love how a piece can change over time; becoming more sacred. And how we pass along these treasures to loved ones. Jewelry can have so many meanings and purposes. It’s a piece of handcrafted art you can wear. It can be a reminder of your love for someone. It can be a good luck charm that you wear anytime there is a special event in your life. These stories reflect who you are and jewelry is that means of expressing it. This is why I’ve always gravitated towards jewelry; it’s the story behind why we hold pieces so close to our hearts.
I love creating jewelry and each piece is special to me. Putting on a piece of my jewelry, you should feel even more beautiful and more like yourself. I hope you find a piece that you’ll love or you'll love giving to someone. A piece that is radiant, just like you are.
